Rock Is Far From Dead, But Mainstream Knowledge/Curiosity About it Died In The 20th Century
Calling out Eddie Trunk in 2024 is like shooting fish in a barrel. He’s still talking about Winger. No, seriously, he is. And, if someone gave him a world map to locate the great rock and roll bands of today, he would probably need probably less than five thumbtacks — US, Britain, and Canada would probably be the first one he pins to the map.
Eddie is Rip Van Winkle hitting the snooze button 47 times, waking up in 2024, but going by a 1988 calendar of rock and roll. To his luck, he found a band that is using “rock is dead” angle to brand themselves as utterly unique in some fictitious parched environment of rock and roll.
Yeah. It’s parched. It’s parched if you’re fuckin lazy, and your idea of finding out about the state of rock and roll is flipping through Rolling Stone and watching The Grammy Awards — both equally irrelevant to finding the heart and soul of rock and roll.
Don’t want to give all the credit to “lazy”, it’s also a ego-driven choice to covet this brand — in spite of it being fake news. It’s also been fake news for, well, forever.
Dirty Honey is a decent band, and their live shows are good. No denying that, even though it sounds like London Quireboys with a slight Black Crowes makeover. Again all good except…
You’re not saving rock and roll, and you’re late to a party in which you think you’re the only guest.
Let’s go in alphabetical order of just a small sample of the bands who are kicking ass of the highest order. Check date of band formation and country of origin — and locations/origin of the festivals. It will make the commentary “rock is dead” even sillier.
Shit, that was embarrassing.
Imagine having your chest out to thousands of listeners and broadcasting utter bullshit of the state of the union of rock and roll in 2024.
If this isn’t ostrich-in-the-sand meets classic media gatekeeping, I have no fuckin’ clue what is.
It get’s “worse”. This is only the tip of the iceberg of how healthy and vibrant the current rock and roll music scene — best since the Age of Bowie.
If only could back that up with a book…and a playlist of over 700 songs.
Rock and roll is far, far, far, far from dead. Beware of people my age(I am 60) — they are giving you anything but the truth.
All institutions have reached their expiry date. This includes the institution of the music industry/mainstream journalism. It’s time for them to get the message…
